Our Egyptologist will pick you up from your hotel in Cairo for your guided tour which will start with Cairo Citadel, sprawling over a limestone spur on Cairo’s eastern edge, the Citadel, started by Saladin in 1176 as a fortification against the Crusaders, was home to Egypt’s rulers for 700 years, it features five different gates and twelve towers, one of the main highlights here is the Great Mosque of Muhammad Ali, this Ottoman-style mosque was commissioned by Muhammad Ali Pasha who is deemed the founder of modern Egypt thanks to its massive size and location inside Cairo Citadel the mosque now decorates the skyline of the city of Cairo, then you will head over to the Mosque of Ibn Tulun, the city’s oldest intact, functioning Islamic monument is easily identified by its high walls topped with neat crenellations that resemble a string of paper dolls. It was built between 876 and 879 AD by Ahmed Ibn Tulun, your tour will also cover another nearby attraction which is the Gayer-Anderson Museum, the museum gets its current name from John Gayer-Anderson, the British major and army doctor who restored the two adjoining 16thcentury houses between 1935 and 1942, filling them with lovely antiquities, artworks and knick-knacks acquired on his travels in the region.

Following the first part of the day you will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before you move forward with your tour and visit the Mosque-Madrassa of Sultan Hassan,

a monumental mosque and religious school located in ancient Cairo. It was built between 1356 and 1363 AD the mosque is considered remarkable for its massive size and innovative architectural components, then you will conclude your tour with a visit to Al-Rifa’i Mosque,built between 1869 and 1912, located opposite the Mosque-Madrassa of Sultan Hassan, the mosque was architecturally conceived as a complement to the older structure, it is famous for having the Royal cemetery of Muhammad Ali’s dynasty. After the end of the tour you will be transferred back to your hotel in Cairo.
