This morning our Egyptologist will pick you up from your hotel in Alexandria for your tour to the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, a necropolis with a series of Alexandrian tombs, statues and archaeological objects of the Pharaonic funerary cult with Hellenistic and early Imperial Roman influences. Due to the time period, many of the features of the catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa merge Roman, Greek and Egyptian cultural points, the place is by the far the most significant archaeological site in Alexandria, then proceed to visit the nearby Pompey’s Pillar, a massive 27m column looms over the debris of the glorious ancient settlement of Rhakotis, the original township from which Alexandria grew, it is hewn from red Aswan granite and it has been one of the city’s prime sights for centuries. Then you will head over to Kom El Dikka archaeological site, Kom Al Dikka was a well-off residential area in Graeco Roman times, with lovely villas, bathhouses and a theatre. The site now is well known for 13 white marble terraces of the only Roman amphitheatre found in Egypt. Afterwards you will stop for lunch at a local restaurant before you proceed to the Mediterranean Riviera in order to visit the Citadel of Qaitbay, a 15thcentury defensive fortress located on the Mediterranean coast, it was established in 1477 A.D. The Citadel is situated on the northern tip of Pharos Island over the remains of the legendary lighthouse of Alexandria. After the end of the tour you will be transferred back to your hotel in Alexandria.
